Le World Expo Museum (WEM) offre une rétrospective des expositions universelles depuis 1851, mettant en lumière leur impact sur la modernité industrielle et la mémoire collective. C’est dans l’ère « post-expo » de l’Exposition universelle de Shanghai 2010 que la création du WEM et sa construction se sont concrétisées. Les travaux, débutés en 2013 et achevés en 2017, ont permis l’édification d’un bâtiment qui porte un dialogue entre passé, présent et futur. Le WEM devient ainsi un lieu où se tissent des liens entre l’architecture muséale, l’espace public, et la mémoire industrielle, illustrant une pratique de la patrimonialisation en Chine contemporaine.


The World Expo Museum (WEM) offers a retrospective of World Fairs since 1851, highlighting their impact on industrial modernity and collective memory. It was in the “post-expo” era of the Shanghai 2010 World Expo that the creation of the WEM and the building of the museum became a reality. Work began in 2013 and was completed in 2017, resulting in a building that embodies a dialogue between past, present and future. The WEM is thus becoming a place where links are forged between museum architecture, public space, and industrial memory, illustrating the practice of heritage preservation in contemporary China.
