1964-65 World's Fair Remnants Outside NYC

This article recounts several remnants of the 1964-65 New York World's Fair that found a second life elsewhere in the United States after the event closed.

Walt Disney tested four attractions there, including the "it's a small world" ride (moved to Disneyland) and the Carousel of Progress, now at Disney World in Florida.

The Spanish Pavilion, a concrete masterpiece by architect Javier Carvajal housing works by Goya and Picasso, was gifted to the city of St. Louis and today houses a local pizzeria.

The Uniroyal Giant Tire, once the fair's Ferris wheel, became an iconic roadside attraction in Detroit.

The Johnson Wax Pavilion, with its floating golden disc designed by the same firm behind the company's logo, was incorporated into the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed campus in Racine, Wisconsin, where the Oscar-winning film once shown there is still screened every weekend.

Finally, the Wisconsin Pavilion, a Googie-style tepee, was relocated to Neillsville to become a local radio station.
