The government has worked out a plan for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea, which is hoped to become an "economic Olympiad."
In the third meeting of a support committee for Yeosu Expo chaired by Prime Minister Han Seung-soo, the government on Tuesday approved a budget of W2.04 trillion (US$1=W1,502) for the expo. The allocation is up 22 percent from the W1.17 trillion originally projected in November last year, when the city of Yeosu won the bid to host the Expo. But it was down W348 billion from a tentative allocation disclosed to the public in September.
The Yeosu Expo Organizing Committee will start working earnestly to attract countries around the world to the expo, after the government plan is officially approved at the 144th General Assembly of the Bureau of International Expositions on Dec. 2.
Yeosu Expo will be held in the new port area of Yeosu, South Jeolla Province for three months, from May 12 to Aug. 12, 2012, under the theme "The Living Ocean and Coast."
